Japanese massage (Shiatsu) is a massage technique that evolved from traditional Chinese massage. It has its origins in ancient Chinese acupuncture and massage techniques, which first appeared during the Jin dynasty and reached their peak during the Tang dynasty. The techniques mainly involve pressure and friction, with vertical pressure being applied to the centre of the body using the practitioner’s own body weight. A session lasts 45–60 minutes, with each pressure application lasting 3–10 seconds.
